What causes elbow pain?

"I always use my Jacstrap elbow support when fitting carpets. It is an essential part of my work kit. Without it I could not do my job."
Chris Glanville, master carpet fitter

It is excessive gripping that can cause elbow pain. For example tennis elbow, itself often the result of activities other then tennis, is a result of lack of strength, inefficient technique, poorly suited equipment or overquick progression that in turn cause people to grip too hard. In tennis excessive gripping is often the result of wrong string tension or handle circumference.

The onset of pain on the outside of the elbow is usually gradual with tenderness felt on or below the joint's bony protuberance.

Golfers can also suffer from a pain similar to tennis elbow, but in their case the pain and tenderness are felt on the inside of the joint.
